With an obvious improvement of guitar players in the region, a lot of people have been questioning as to how and why such drastic progress has been upon us all. Some people give credit to video games (ie. Guitar Hero) but they couldn’t be further from the truth. Mr. Ben Wilson has taken many pupils under his wing teaching for the last five years from his family home in Donnybrook, Bunbury Catholic College, Various Music Stores and most recently from his own musical school based on Marlsdon Hill.

Having teaching experience throughout the South West region has gained Ben a lot of recognition and even though his luscious blonde locks look like they belong on the head of an 80’s metal veteran, this isn’t what Mr. Wilson solely teaches as his main musical influences are beyond broad. Being born in Northern Ireland in 1987 the traditional music of his home land still runs deep through his veins as the traditional Irish finger picking styling’s combined with the technical heavy metal aspects of greats like Randy Rhoades and Eddie Van-Halen have built up what is the young musician turned teacher. Having such passion for his local music scene is also evident in his teaching styles.

We at Collins Music asked Ben why he thought supporting the local music industry is so important and sincerely he replied with “WA is the most isolated place in the world, second to Antarctica so they as musicians need all the support they can get.” When asked what advice he had for budding students or people at looking to further their musical career another positive answer was given. “There is no reason anybody can’t be amazing players as everybody is born with the same tools as the best of rockers!” Having an unmatched enthusiasm for his students is one of Bens heavy attributes and like most musicians of his level isn’t confined to just his guitar.

“I like to toy around with most stringed instruments, jam with friends and family… it’s amazing what you can achieve when you put your mind to it” And for those of you who have seen him play know how well he plays acoustically (finger picking style), shreds, playing in open tunings and pretty much anything which has seen him jam internationally playing in hot spots like Los Angeles, New York, England, Ireland and so much more.

Bens rates are at $25.00 a half hour or $250.00 per term (ten weeks) with hours being beyond flexible accommodating those who work shift, 9-5 jobs or have any other commitments that you need to walk around.
