Processions started with Bunburys own Leigh Gardiner or more commonly known on the touring circuit Louis And The Honkeytonk. Things were steady with punters in their few but this didn't deter the 'tonk from doing what he does best with the infamous kazoo resting side of stage awaiting its turn to come through the front of house. Ms. Princess Goaty Legs was second off the rank catching the attention of those in attendance and cometh the end of his set a more steady crowd had arrived. The Novocaines, were quick to change over with their gear as everything was resting on the stage for hours before their set; It was clear the Northam boys were more than confident as they took stage with Corey Marriott strutting around the stage like a deformed reincarnation of Mick Jagger. With all comparisons aside their music was something to be marvelled at and the raw energy put into every song was something to be commended, cometh the end of the set saw half of the Streetlight crew take stage for a blues jam with the already fat and happening sound becoming something else. As good as they may have been Streetlight, one of Perth biggest names at this very moment within moments of plugging in managed to captivate those who sat in on what turned out to be a quiet night at the Prince. Touring their latest release Wolf Notes, the five piece took no time in pushing their new material upon us and as a band it was impressive to see that they played at their creative peek caring little for the lack of a crowd and doing what they do best, that being music. Red Sunrise which is available for stream on the wonder that is myspace was a track that should be looked into and much like the set prior saw the entirety of the Novocaines take stage and embark in what was the craziest thing I've seen in a long time on our local stage. Piggy back rides were in their plenty, percussionists flocked from seemingly no where and the vibe was strong and evidently the bond between both the bands made the night what it was and next time either are in town be sure to check them out. Maybe with a little heavier advertising next time around the punters may flock in, you never do know in this town. Big ups' to Mr. Honky Tonk as his banter throughout the entirety of his set made my night; always remember folks (and as said by Leigh on the night) "never rest your guitar on your groin, either way you look at it, it's not going to end well." |
