Musician of the Month

Konrad Paszkudzki

"Konrad has a great sound and is so creative when he plays - but that's not what grabs you the most. He swings real hard.... what more can I say?
To put it simply, he is Jazz!!"  James Morrison 2008

At the age of 14 Konrad was awarded the "Young West Australian Instrumentalist of the Year" and at 15 was accepted into the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) on jazz piano. He graduated from WAAPA at the age of 19 with a Bachelor of Music in 2007 and was awarded the Melville Toyota Scholarship for most outstanding graduating jazz student. In 2008, he was the winner of the Generations in Jazz James Morrison Scholarship, making him the first pianist in the 20 history of the competition to win the prestigious award. Subsequently he joins the ranks of other WA scholarship winners such as Matt Jodrell, Troy Roberts, Jamie Oehlers, Andrew Fisenden and Dane Alderson, who are all carving international careers for themselves.

In the same year he was invited to Japan to attend the Tokyo jazz festival as a guest, as well as touring for 2 months with WA based Latin group "Descarga" to Christmas Island, Cocos Island and all through out Western Australia. Along with this he has been playing piano in the James Morrison sextet at various concerts including The Basement in Sydney, York Jazz festival, and Perth Concert hall.  Konrad has also been performing concerts under his own name with the Konrad Paszkudzki Trio and Quartet which were featured as main acts at the York jazz festival, The Bunbury International Jazz Festival, as well as sell out, one off concerts in Margaret River and Albany.

He has been featured as the pianist in countless performances with many renowned musicians including James Morrison, John Morrison, Emma Pask, Alex Norris (USA), Graeme Lyall, Gary Keller (Miami), James Muller, Daryl Sommers, Bob Barnard, John Foreman, Phil Stack, Troy Roberts, Mat Jodrell, David Rex, Carl Mackey, Andrew Fisenden, Dane Alderson, David Campbell, Joe Chindamo, and has been the support act for the Shelly Berg Trio (USA), Tommy Emmanuel and Marcia Hines.

2009 will see Konrad recording his first album with James Morrison at the new Morrison Studios in Sydney as well as undertaking his Masters degree at the University of Miami, where he has been offered a full 2 year scholarship and a teaching position. This will involve study under the guidance of Doug Bickel, Shelly Berg and Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

Collins Music wishes Konrad all the very best for his developing career.
